JONESVILLE – Torie Hinson Shaw, fondly known as “Toto,” was born on May 11, 1977, in Natchez, MS, and peacefully passed away in Jonesville, LA. Torie was a cherished daughter of Jimmy Duane Hinson Jr. and Gloria Ann Otwell.
Torie’s memory will forever live on through her beloved sons, Chance Shaw and Skyrum Hinson.
She is survived by her siblings: Trey Hinson (wife, Bambi Hinson) and their children, Gloria and Gabe, Tabatha Otwell (husband, Miles McMillin) and their children, Mason and Anna, Zack Otwell (wife, Nicole Otwell) and their children, Olivia and Kennedy, Adrian Otwell, and Arial Otwell; her stepparents, Jeffrey and April Otwell. She is also survived by her aunts, Carolyn Beatty, Becky Smith, Melinda, and Celia Hinson; great aunt, Carol Prudumme, and great uncle, Robert Prudumme.
Torie was preceded in death by her husband, Van Shaw, and her parents, Gloria Ann Otwell and Jimmy Duane Hinson Jr. She joins her grandparents, Shirley Smith, Marion Smith, Jimmy Duane Hinson Sr., and Betty White, and Rhonda Blackwell, and uncles, Mike Smith, Arthur Blackwell, Gerry Beatty, Greg Hinson, Richard Hinson, and Lynn Hinson.
Torie’s life was marked by remarkable achievements and passions. She was Simsboro High School’s Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer in 1995, achieving an impressive 42 points in a single game. Torie continued her basketball journey as a player at Copiah Lincoln in Wesson, MS, on a full scholarship. Beyond sports, Torie found joy in horseback riding, had a deep love for music, and an appreciation for the beauty of nature, especially the moon.
Above all, Torie will be remembered for her unwavering love and care as a mother, sister, relative, and friend. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of many.
A celebration of Torie’s life will be held at Good Road Pentecostal Church on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chad Franklin officiating. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery in Jonesville, LA. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
Torie Hinson Shaw’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, forever surrounded by the beauty she so cherished.
Those honoring Torie as pallbearers are Alton McGee, John “Tac” Tapper, Seth Parker, Miles McMillin, Zackariah Otwell, and Gaven Hinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Hinson, Trey Hinson, and Greger Hinson.
