NATCHEZ — The Kyle House at 617 High St. was built circa 1820 for free woman of color Nancy Kyle and her family. The neighborhood was historically known as Kyletown and Kyle family descendants owned the property until the 1930s. The house was donated to the Historic Natchez Foundation in 1981 by actor George Hamilton, along with several other parcels he owned across the street.
The Foundation sold it to Drs. J.R. and Fredericka Todd, who completed the rehabilitation of the house in 1984. The Todd family restored the house a second time after it was damaged in a 1998 tornado and still own it today.
These pictures are part of a series of before and after photographs that will run in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday during 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
