Sept. 30, 1948 – Jan. 21, 2024
FERRIDAY – Funeral services for Karen “Kay” Thames Watson, 75, of Vidalia, LA will be held at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Kay was born on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1948, in Wisner, LA, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, in Natchez, MS surrounded by her loved ones. If you knew Kay, then you loved her. She was a mother, a sister, a ya-ya, an aunt, a best friend, and the reason our whole world went around. She was the Lucille Ball of our family. She loved spending time on the back porch with her coffee and Jesus. If you were to ask her what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she would say her family. Mama Kay, as she is affectionately called by many, will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Watson; parents, James Autry Thames and Bertha Taylor Thames; and grandson, James “Bubba” Austin Edwards.
Those left behind to cherish Kay’s memories are her daughters, Charlene Jeanise of Lake Charles, LA, Lisa Edwards and Tammy of Madison, MS, and Karen Rae West of Vidalia, LA; grandchildren, Mandy Edwards, Cole Jeanise and Joselyn, Raymond Eames and Madison, Kristena Eames and Jason Jeanise; sister, Kim Weatherford; brother, Bubba Thames and Carolyn; stepdaughter, Kim Eames and Russell of Vidalia, LA; four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Thames, Christopher Thames, Jessica Shelby, Michelle West, James West, and Brantley Grantham.
The family will receive friends at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, from noon until service time at 2 p.m.
