NATCHEZ — The eastbound side of the Mississippi River bridge — from Vidalia, Louisiana, to Natchez — was closed for a short time Monday morning because of a wreck on the bridge.

However, both bridges — eastbound and westbound — are open now.

“The eastbound bridge had to be closed to clear the accident,” said Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson. “An ambulance had to be dispatched, but we have no word on injuries. We hope everyone involved is OK.

“The City of Natchez and the City of Vidalia are coordinating road conditions with MDOT and MDOT is sanding the bridge right now, as we speak,” Gibson said.

He said he and Vidalia Mayor Buz Craft have been in contact and would continue to communicate.

“We have another weather update meeting scheduled for noon,” Gibson said.
