NATCHEZ — Officers from Natchez, Adams County, and Concordia Parish along with U.S. Marshals and Mississippi Bureau of Investigations all came to assist in the capture of three juveniles who escaped the Henley-Young-Patton Youth Detention Center in Hinds County overnight Sunday and then proceeded to Natchez, where they shot and carjacked a woman at the Stanton Baptist Church on U.S. 61.
The shooting victim is in recovery after they left her on the side of the road.
“This brought four days of terror for our community to a close,” Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said during an impromptu press conference on Gayosa Avenue, where Tayshon Holmes, 17, of Natchez, and the two other escapees Jashon Jones, 15, and Robert Smith, 16, were all apprehended on Friday morning.
Natchez patrol officers Raven Carver and Anjanette Kelly spotted the stolen car, a gold-colored 2015 Ford Fusion, early Friday morning on Brenham Avenue. Law enforcement quickly responded to secure the area and shortly after received phone calls about the three juveniles on foot in the area of Gayosa Avenue and Fisk Avenue. While there, they tried to steal another car and break into a home, Patten said.
One of them was still wearing the shooting victim’s jacket and had the keys to the car in his pocket, he added.
