VIDALIA, La. — A Clayton man has recently been arrested on rape and sexual battery charges after a 1990s rape investigation was opened by Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators.
According to a news release, in December CPSO opened the investigation of a sexual abuse case that occurred in the late 1990s involving a victim who at the time was under 13 years old.
Based on initial evidence, an arrest warrant was obtained for now 65-year-old Larry Joe Smith on charges of first degree rape and sexual battery of a victim under 13.
Smith was taken into custody without incident.
“Due to the nature of the investigation, no further details can be released at this time,” authorities said. “Anyone with information involving the case or additional victims can contact Detective Stephen Lipscomb at (318) 437-0740 Ext. 409 or submit a tip using the CPSO mobile app.”
The statue of limitations for sexual crimes against a child is 30 years after the victim’s 18th birthday.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
