NATCHEZ — A home at 83 E. Wilderness Road in the Broadmoor subdivision went up in flames for the second time early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters responded at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday to the same house that burned Sunday evening.
“I don’t know how the second started,” said volunteer fire coordinator Daryl Smith. “I don’t think anyone was home and I can’t say if it was a rekindle or anything like that. We just don’t know.”
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the occupant had medical issues that impair decision-making and resulted in her starting the first fire, which firefighters put out between 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday.
The initial damage was contained to a back bedroom of the house. By the end of the second fire, the home was destroyed, Smith said.
“The second time it was totaled and it was already damaged pretty bad the first time,” he said.
Firefighters remained at the scene until about 8:30 a.m., he said.
“I’m glad everyone was out safely and no first responders were hurt,” he said. “I hate that someone lost their house. It’s a bad way to start the new year.”
