MCCOMB — A lack of offense in the first quarter hurt Natchez High School as the MHSAA Class 5A Lady Bulldogs lost to the Class 2A and still-undefeated Bogue Chitto Attendance Center Lady Bobcats 46-36 last Friday afternoon at the McComb Christmas Tournament.
Despite the loss to one of the top teams not only in Class 2A but perhaps the entire state in Bogue Chitto, Lady Bulldogs head coach Alphaka Moore said her team held its own and could have pulled off what some would consider an upset.
“I think our kids played very well. I think we had some issues in the first half with scoring,” Moore said. “We missed a lot of shots. We missed quite a few free throws and I think that cost us the game.”
Moore also complimented on just how good the Lady Bobcats (16-0) are even against teams from higher classifications like Natchez High.
“They’re a good team. They’re consistent with what they do and they execute well. I think they’ll be a real good team in their classifications,” Moore said.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 12-4 overall after going 1-2 in tournament play. They return to Region 3-5A play at 6 p.m. Friday when they host Florence High School.
Bogue Chitto boys 48, Natchez High 45 (Friday afternoon)
