NATCHEZ — The Adams County has a new county administrator, supervisors Warren Gaines and Kevin Wilson confirmed Thursday morning.
Stephanie Washington, current comptroller of Sunflower County, will be named county administrator here when the board of supervisors next meet on Jan. 2, 2024.
Washington was offered the job on Dec. 18 after her interview with the supervisors. She accepted shortly thereafter.
“She is an impressive young woman,” District 2 Supervisor Kevin Wilson said. “She has been in and around a job just like this one for a good while. It seems like she’s done every job there is in local government. She knows the verbiage and seems spot on.”
The vote to hire Washington was unanimous, Wilson said.
“I think she will be excellent,” he said.
Washington, contacted Thursday morning at her office in Indianaola, said she is excited about her opportunity in Adams County.
She first served Sunflower County as its purchasing clerk for eight years, and was appointed county comptroller there in 2016.
Washington, who has a bachelor’s degree in business from Delta State and a bachelor’s in accountancy from Mississippi Valley State, is working on her Ph.D. in human capital development from the University of Southern Mississippi in Long Beach.
“I have completed all of my course work for my doctorate degree and am now writing my dissertation,” she said. “I expect to finish it something this year or early next year. I’m writing on the weekends.”
Washington also earned master’s degrees in business and management and in professional accounting, both from Delta State. She also holds a Human Resources certification from Belhaven College.
“I am ready to start this new job. I have some plans in mind and look forward to meeting with the department heads,” she said.
Washington is single and has no children. She is in the process of relocating to Natchez.
