TALLULAH, La. — One quarter perhaps made all the difference in the outcome of last Tuesday night’s game between the Delta Charter School Storm and the Madison Parish High School Jaguars.

After a good first quarter, Delta Charter failed to score a single point in the second quarter to go down by 15 points at halftime. The Storm tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but still fell to the Madison Parish Jaguars 44-32.

Storm head coach Patrick Davis said turnovers in the second quarter as what really hurt his team. The Jaguars outscored the Storm 11-0 to take a 22-7 lead into halftime. Davis added that had Delta Charter played better in the second quarter, the Storm would have won the game.

“Second quarter, we were turning the ball over. We had a lot of turnovers that led to easy baskets (for Madison Parish),” Davis said. “We competed, but the turnovers is what hurt us. Second half, we played a good half.”

Despite being undersized, especially down in the post, Delta Charter managed to outscore Madison Parish 12-11 in the third quarter and 13-11 in the fourth quarter. Hy’Keem Johnson led the Storm with 12 points and Juvari Singleton had eight points and 15 rebounds.

“They have four or five guys that hurt us in the paint. They scored a lot of their points in the paint,” Davis said.

Davis noted that Johnson stood out offensively while Singleton stood out both defensively and rebounding for Delta Charter.

“Hy’Keem, he started getting to the rim and getting to the basket. As for Juvari, I had to take him out of the game at point because of foul trouble. But he had a lot of rebounds. And he’s 5-9, 5-10. But he’s real athletic,” Davis said.

The Storm dropped to 1-7 overall. They traveled to Lake Providence, La. to take on General Trass High School at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Madison Parish girls 37, Delta Charter 20 (Tues. night)

TALLULAH, La. — Janiyah Singleton and Camryn Tassin each scored eight points to lead Delta Charter School in scoring, but it was not enough as the Lady Storm lost to the Madison Parish High School Lady Jaguars 37-20 last Tuesday night to remain winless this season.

“They played a good game. They’re improving mentally and physically,” Lady Storm head coach Patrick Davis said. “They put the most points they put up the whole year. They competed.”

The Lady Storm hung tough despite their youth and inexperience. Yet they were outscored by the Lady Jaguars 10-7 in the first quarter and 8-4 in the second quarter to go into halftime down 18-11.

The third quarter is when Madison Parish put the game away as the home team outscored Delta Charter 10-2 for a 28-13 lead. The Lady Jaguars then outscored the Lady Storm 9-7 in the fourth quarter. Only one other player for Delta Charter found the scoring column and that was Jillian Kemp with four points.

“I would like to see them improve physically and being more aggressive offensively,” Davis said.

The Lady Storm fell to 0-8 this season. Their next chance to pick up win number one took place on Thursday at 6 p.m. at General Trass High School in Lake Providence, La.
