Elizabeth was born on May 25, 1930, in New Roads, LA, to Gilbert and Lillian Derozan. She was one of nine children born into the marriage. She moved to Vidalia and remained a resident there for well over 70 years. She was baptized in her home parish of Pointe Coupee and later joined Zion Baptist Church in 1957 and remained a faithful member. Elizabeth, better known as “Ms. Liz or Tee-Moon” loved Jesus, her family and friends, and anyone within her reach, never meeting a stranger. She loved to fellowship and her career in hospitality and food service was a perfect fit and she retired in the early 1990’s. She was a proud Creole hailing from South Louisiana, and she did not hesitate to tell anyone who would listen. Elizabeth was married and had five children.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Willie Clay; three of her children Frank Derozan, Joseph Derozan, and Bryan Derozan; all eight of her siblings and their spouses, Richard and Velma Derozan, Edward and Bertha VanBuren Derozan, Jules and Shirley Derozan, August and Leonia Derozan, Ida Mae Derozan Turner Washington and Unlow, Agnes Derozan Jackson and Clinton, Adline Derozan Williams and Albert, and two grandsons, Mark Bell and Chris Bell.
Elizabeth is survived by her only daughter, Betty Armstrong Bell; one son, Junior Derozan; three daughters-in-law, Hattie Derozan, Regina Dee Derozan, and Diane Derozan; one daughter-in-love, Rosetta Derozan; a grandson who she loved and raised as her very own, Joseph Dee Derozan; a host of grandchildren including her patient granddaughter, Roxanne Derozan Johnson; and many caring nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially her niece, Yashica Derozan Anderson Hayes.
Elizabeth lived a long and memorable life; she was the life of any gathering and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
