VIDALIA – Funeral services for Rebecca Sue Day Smith, 72, of Clayton, LA will be held at Vidalia First Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Mark Richardson officiating.  Sue will be laid to rest at Abi Del Memorial Cemetery in Monterey, LA, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Sue was born on Saturday, July 14, 1951, in Natchez, MS to Marilyn Myers Day and David Day and went to be with the Lord after a short illness on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, in New Orleans, LA. She graduated in 1969 from Bogue Chitto, MS, and was Homecoming Queen. Sue found the love of her life, Charles L. Smith, Jr., and married on Nov. 12, 1971. She worked and retired from BellSouth, Concordia Parish School Board, and Fresenius Medical Company. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spoiling her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
She is reunited with her parents; brother, Gerald Day; and great-granddaughter, Cameryn Jules Thomas.
Those left behind to cherish the memories of Sue are her husband of 52 years, Charles L. Smith, Jr.; daughters, Tara Smith Scruggs and her husband, David Ray and Tami Smith Andre and her husband, Will; granddaughters, Paige Thomas and her husband, Sam, Mallory Wallace, and Carlee McClain; great-granddaughters, Addison Jane Thomas and Lakelyn Reign Thomas; and great-grandson, Maddox Kole Thomas.
Those honoring Sue as pallbearers are Bud Smith, Ronnie Lewis, Jimmy Wilkinson, Melton Pierre, Nicholas Day, Cedric Dunbar, and Raymond Murray.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Martis, Alvin Wiggins, Pat Turner, Jimmy Huber, Richard Jones, Mike McDonald, Jack Langston, and Ronnie Hedricks.
The family will receive friends at Vidalia First Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
