A Natchez man died in a one-car traffic accident on Mississippi 555, a.k.a. Martin Luther King Jr. Road, near Pineview Drive on Monday evening, officials said.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said he pronounced the victim, Ronald Lunkin, 44, of Natchez, dead on the scene at approximately 6:50 p.m. Monday.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:36 p.m., said Craig James, MHP Troop M public affairs officer.
“After arriving, Troopers learned that a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Mississippi 555 when it traveled off the right shoulder, collided with a tree and overturned,” James said. “The driver . . . was not wearing a seatbelt.”
Adams County first responders, including fire, ambulance and sheriff’s office personnel, also responded to the scene of the accident Monday.
Lee said toxicology samples were drawn on the scene as required by Mississippi law.
“It was terrible and my heart and prayers go out to this family,” Lee said.
