NATCHEZ — The 2020 Norman Puckett Junior Golf Championship will take place on June 13 and June 14 at the Duncan Park Golf Course.

Greg Brooking, Duncan Park Golf Course superintendent, said that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, no more than 50 junior golfers will participate in this year’s tournament.

“We will have all safety precautions in place for the tournament,” Brooking said. “The parents will be allowed to ride in carts, but only one person can ride per cart.”

Brooking said that as of early Monday afternoon, 20 participants have registered for the two-day tournament, including local golfers Chase Kaiser and Kayla Starr as well as Connor Gee, last year’s boys overall champion, and Hannah Grace Hinckley, last year’s girls overall champion. He added that the golfers are from different parts of Mississippi and Louisiana.

“Kayla and Chase are our local stars. Kayla just got a scholarship from William & Mary. They will provide some good competition,” Brooking said.

There will be three age groups for both the boys and girls — nine to 12 years old, 13 to 14 years old, and 15 to 18 years old. The nine- to 12-year-olds will play 18 total holes – nine holes per day, while the players in both the 13- and 14-year-old and 15- to 18-year olds groups will play 36 total holes – 18 holes per day.

Brooking noted that anyone who wants to register can go the Mississippi Golf Association’s website, www.missgolf.org. Registration ends on June 11. He added that the host hotel is the Natchez Grand Hotel.
