NATCHEZ — The Natchez Adams School District is working to provide summer learning resources to students and planning for the start of a new school year this fall, school officials said.

Printed instructional packets will be available to students in kindergarten through 11th grade beginning June 8. Parents can contact their child’s school to pick up the materials, school officials said.

Students will also have access to virtual materials through the “iReady” online platform for continuous learning and instruction in both reading and mathematics.

The district is working to pilot a virtual summer enrichment program on June 8 through June 30 for students in second through eighth grades where students may interact with their teachers in reading, math and science online, school officials said.

The program will aid the district in preparing for possibly having a blend of virtual and printed learning materials for students in the fall, school officials said.

District officials said they would convene with an advisory board made up of parents and community members to further discuss plans for reopening schools in the coming school year.

“The COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of all schools in Natchez after Spring Break,” officials announced in a news release on Thursday. “Our district, teachers, students and parents went above and beyond with being creative to ensure continued learning during this time of crisis and shutdown. Now that the school year has come to an end, we must look to provide quality teaching and learning in a future of uncertainty for the fall.

“The Natchez-Adams School District is working to provide summer learning opportunities for students. We are also looking for stakeholders and community input as we strategically plan for the upcoming school year.”
