NATCHEZ — All spring sports for Louisiana high schools has been canceled for the 2019-2020 school year.
In a press release Thursday, the Louisiana High School Athletics Association stated their decision on canceling the 2020 spring sports season due to the coronavirus.
“The decision was not in haste and was discussed with tremendous concern for those senior athletes being affected,” stated Eddie Bonnie, LHSAA Executive Director. “We understand the hardships and disappointments everyone, especially the class of 2020, is enduring due to the closure of schools facilities, but our unwavering focus must now remain on doing our part by continuing to follow any/all mitigation measures set forth by Governor John Bel Edwards.”
Bonnie stated in the press release that LHSAA staff and the LHSAA Executive Committee will discuss potential permissive summer activities and make plans “if” the virus affects the beginning of the 2020-2021 fall sports season.
