NATCHEZ — Quinton Logan has played both collegiate and high school baseball.

Logan first began playing for the Trinity Episcopal School Saints.

He played through his junior year and then transferred to Cathedral High School for his senior year.

“The reason why I transferred schools was because of baseball,” Logan said. “At the time, baseball was my No. 1 sport and I knew I had a future in baseball. Trinity only played 12 games my junior season. That wasn’t enough for college coaches to see me. They only played district games.”

Five years ago today, the Green Wave played against the Enterprise Lincoln Yellow Jackets.

Logan was given the start on the mound after pitching against Franklin County High School earlier in the week. Logan said Craig Beesley, Cathedral head baseball coach, gave him the start despite the pitching performance against Franklin County.

“Logan was definitely one of our best pitchers and threw the ball well,” Beesley said. “His bat was unbelievable. He was one of the best power-hitters at Cathedral.”

Logan made the best of his only season with Cathedral.

Logan went 9-0 with and 0.94 ERA on the mound for the Green Wave. At the plate, he hit 10 home runs and 43 RBIs with a .402 batting average.

During the 2013 season, the Cathedral Green Wave advanced to the Mississippi High School Athletics Association Class 1A State championship game against Smithville High School.

Before the championship series against Smithville, Cathedral played against Stringer High School in the South State championship game.

“One of my memories I’m going to remember of Logan is when he hit a two-run home run against Smithville,” Beesley said.

Cathedral swept both Smithville and Stringer High School en route to their fourth state championship in baseball.

In the second game of the state championship, Logan went two-for-three and drove in one RBI.

After graduating from Cathedral, Logan went onto Hinds Community College in Raymond. During his sophomore season, Logan led the Eagles with 47 RBIs. On the mound, Logan notched seven saves, went 3-1 and posted a team-best 1.54 ERA.

Logan graduated from Hinds Community College and went onto play for the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs in 2018.

In the 2018 season, Logan pitched 24 innings in 16 relief appearances, struck out 28 batters and walked 13. In his first two appearances against Pepperdine and McNeese, Logan pitched four and one-third innings, struck out six batters and allowed one hit.

“Playing collegiate baseball was an eye-opening experience,” Logan said. “At first, it was how fast the game changes from high school to college. It was a foot faster than high school, but it was for more elite players. I get to say I played in Div. I baseball and some people can’t say that. It’s truly a blessing and I didn’t think I was going to make it that far.”
