THIBODAUX, La. — It was a rough weekend for Vidalia High School’s varsity baseball team as the LHSAA Class 2A Vikings lost a pair of lopsided games to the Class 5A Thibodaux High School Tigers.

In the first game that was played last Friday night, Thibodaux used a five-run second inning to defeat Vidalia 12-1 in just five innings due to the mercy rule.

Thibodaux’s P. Domangue pitched all five innings and held the Vikings to just one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Domangue didn’t allow a run until Brett Walsworth drove in Adam Eames with a single in the top of the fifth inning.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before chasing Vidalia starting pitcher Peyton Fort after he gave up five runs while not recording a single out in the bottom of the second.

Fort was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs, all of them earned, on five hits and three walks with just one strikeout in one-plus innings. He was relieved by Luke Williamson, who gave up two runs on four hits with one strikeout and one hit batter over two innings.

Jacob Spears came on to pitch the bottom of the fourth and he allowed three unearned runs on one hit with one walk and two hit batters. Those three runs gave Thibodaux a 12-0 lead, which put the mercy rule of 10 run after five innings in effect.

Unfortunately for the Vikings, they could only score one run in the top of the fifth. Eames, Fort, Walsworth and Trey Johnson hit singles for Vidalia.

In the second game between the two teams, the Tigers took down the Vikings 19-4 in five innings.

Vidalia got off to a good start in taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, Thibodaux responded with a six-run rally in the bottom of the first. The Vikings wouldn’t go away quietly as they plated three runs in the top of the second inning to make it a 6-4 game.

But the Tigers made sure that would be as close as the Vikings would get as they scored six runs in the bottom of the second for a 12-4 advantage. Thibodaux scored three runs in the bottom of the third and four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Vidalia’s Brandon Bozeman had quite the interesting performance. On the mound, he lasted just one and two-third innings after giving up 12 runs, eight of them earned, on six hits, four walks and five hit batters with no strikeouts. At the plate, he went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

C.J. Chatman led the Vikings at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run batted in. As a team, the Vikings ended up with eight base hits but they also committed four errors.

The Tigers ended up with an astounding 16 base hits. L. Trosclair went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. S. Boudreaux went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

The losses dropped Vidalia to 1-7 overall heading into its Monday afternoon game at Adams County Christian School.
