Natchez High boys basketball stumbles in quarterfinal round

POPLARVILLE — Natchez High Bulldogs loss 58-54 to Wingfield High School in the MHSAA Class 5A Quarterfinals on Saturday night at Pearl River Community College.
Seven-teen turnovers costed the Bulldogs points in the game. Ten missed layups in the first half also cost the Bulldogs the win.
The third quarter was a huge run for Natchez High with 16 points scored. Ke’Darius Stampley led the scoring in the third quarter with six points.
The Bulldogs led twice in the game in the fourth quarter but let the lead slip away with poor defense.
Stampley finished the game with 19 points. James Singleton finished with 18 points and Ja’Kel Barnes and Dionte’ Thomas both scored six points.
Bulldogs (18-12) end the season short of reaching the semifinal round.
Wingfield (22-11) moves onto the semifinal round and will play Callaway High School (23-5) on March 3 at Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
