We are living in perilous times in Natchez and Adams County.
High unemployment and tough economic times have perhaps contributed to some mental health issues, including depression, drug addiction and suicide in a percentage of the population.
Fortunately organizations are here to help people who may be struggling with mental health issues or people who know or live with people who may be struggling with mental health issues.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Four Rivers Chapter is sponsoring a Suicide Awareness Forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Natchez Community Center, 215 Franklin St.
Despite the name of the event, suicide will not be the only mental health topic on the agenda.
Other mental health issues on the agenda include depression, bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia.
The discussion also will include what to look for in warning signs and how to get help for people who may be suffering from mental health issues.
Information will be available at the event too on local support groups for suicide survivors and family support groups as well as other helpful brochures and information on a variety of mental health topics.
If you or someone you know are experiencing mental health issues, consider attending Thursday night’s forum.
It could be a matter of life and death.
