Have you ever wanted to join a worthwhile organization or non-profit group but you don’t have time for lots of meetings and yearlong events?
Well if that’s the case, the Krewe of Killarney is just right for you.
For a mere $30 per family or $20 for a single membership you can join the Krewe of Killarney.
You don’t have to be Irish to be a member but on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, everyone can be “Irish for a day.”
We only have three events a year, one business meeting, attendance is not mandatory, followed by the annual St. Patrick’s party and auction and then the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The Krewe of Killarney was organized 30 years ago to have a good time and to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an annual parade, but our main goal is to raise funds to assist Pleasant Acre Day School and Holy Family School and in addition, award scholarships to graduating seniors from our four local area high schools. The Krewe awards four scholarships in the amount of $500 each to a worthy senior from each of the four local high schools, Natchez High, Vidalia High, Cathedral and ACCS. Contact your school counselor for details about these scholarships.
We raise these funds every year from the membership dues and from the generous donations we raise at the annual St. Patrick’s party and auction hosted by our outgoing St. Patrick from the previous year. The auction is our main fundraiser for these very worthy causes.
This years’ auction/party will be at the Adams County Safe Room, 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. The auction will begin around 7 p.m. Last year’s St. Patrick XXIX Bob Dearing invites everyone to the party and auction where you can become a member or just come for a good time and participate in the auction to help with our worthy charities.
The party is also where our outgoing St. Patrick XXIX, Bob Dearing, will hand over the shillelagh to this year’s St. Patrick XXX so he can lead this year’s parade.
Just bring your favorite side dish, an item to be auctioned and your checkbook to help out all our worthy causes. Also at the party, we are proud and honored to present, St. Patrick XXX Ron Brumfield.
Brumfield will lead the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 6 p.m. on March 17. Line-up on Main Street at Memorial Park will begin at 5 p.m. Put on your favorite green outfit, (the wilder the better), purchase your beads from Pleasant Acre Day school and come on out for our annual walking parade where St. Patrick and the rest of the Krewe will do their best to rid Natchez of all the snakes that have worked their way into Natchez since last year.
The parade will end at the gazebo on the bluff, where all the snakes will be cast into the river. Natchez and the surrounding community has a lot of Irish heritage and blood running through their veins but St. Patrick XXX Brumfield says it’s OK for everybody to be “Irish” for a day!
Please join us at the party Saturday night and at the parade on St. Patrick’s Day, and “May the luck of the Irish be with you.”
