NATCHEZ —  In the Natchez High School Library, a Natchez High football player signed his scholarship to play football at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

James Singleton sign a letter of intent to continue playing football for the Wolves next season. Singleton is the first of 17 Bulldogs Class of 2020 seniors to sign to continue to play collegiately. The Wolves also gave Singleton the option to play basketball as well. Singleton said he is grateful for the opportunity to play sports in college and it means a lot to him.

Singleton will join Paul Hargrave on the Wolves roster for next season. Hargrave graduated from Natchez High School in 2019. For Copiah Lincoln this season, Hargrave played in two games and rushed for 15 yards, with the longest being for 14 yards against Pearl River Community College.

When Singleton was choosing schools, he said he enjoyed the connection he and Hargrave had at Natchez High.

“I hope we can continue the connection,” Singleton said. “It means a lot to follow Hargrave’s pathway. I know we have a lot of promise.”

For the Bulldogs this past season, Singleton passed for 820 yards, completed seven touchdowns and completed 44 passes. He also rushed for 444 yards and six touchdowns. Former Bulldogs head coach, Roy Rigsby, said James was a good quarterback for the Bulldogs.

“You knew he was one of the better players on the field based on his skill set,” Rigsby said. “No matter who we played against, a lot of teams focused on him in order to shut us down. He was just that dangerous.”
