FERRIDAY —  The Delta Charter Storm boys soccer team earned an 1-0 victory against St. Frederick High School Warriors on Monday night in front of their home fans.

Bradford Prunty scored the lone goal for the Storm in the match and Will Procell, the goalie for the Storm, earned his third shutout victory of the season for the Delta Charter Storm.

Daniel Rivera, Delta Charter head coach, said St. Frederick is a very good defensive team.

“The Warriors play very compact so it’s really hard to score on them,” Rivera said. “Honestly, one of the best defensive units we’ve seen all year.”

In the 20th minute, Bradford scored from the corner and put the Storm on the board. Rivera said it was an unbelievable goal and once in a lifetime type of a goal.

With the win, Delta Charter jumped from the No. 30 spot in the Louisiana High School Division IV power ratings to the No. 25 spot. Rivera said the Storm players are holding their breath with making the LHSAA playoffs this season.

For the Storm to make the LHSAA playoffs, the Houma Christian School Warriors needed to lose against the West Feliciana Saints, and then Delta Charter will advance. If the game is rained or ends in a tie, Rivera said the Storm would also make the playoffs.

If the Storm make the playoffs, then they will be the sixth District 2 team to make the playoffs out of seven teams in the district.

St. Frederick High 2

FERRIDAY — The Lady Storm earned a 2-2 tie in their match against St. Frederick High Lady Warriors on Monday night.

Before the girls match began on Monday, the Delta Charter soccer team honored their eight seniors on both rosters for Senior Night. Landon Davis, Andrew Dillard, Chandler Harrison, Jacob Hawkins, Thomas Geoghegan, Chandler Johnson, Procell and Jordyn Sharp were all the seniors honored before the Lady Storm took the field. On Senior Night, Sharp scored her last goal of her high school career. Cailey Geoghegan also scored a goal in the match. Rivera said he was proud of the effort the Lady Storm showed in the match.

“Our girls possessed the ball really well,” Rivera said. “They found lots of opportunities on goal. We had a few defensive errors that led to the two goals the Lady Warriors scored. But we controlled the ball for the majority of the game.”

With the tie to St. Frederick, the No. 20 seeded team in the Division IV power ratings, the Lady Storm climbed a couple of spots in the standings. But they were not able to make the playoffs as the regular season ended on Monday. The Lady Storm finished No. 28 out of 41 schools. The Lady Storm did not qualify for the LHSAA Division IV playoffs this season.

“I think our girls had a lot of great learning experiences this season,” Rivera said. “Overall, we’re a pretty young team with only one senior. We’re young so emotionally we weren’t very consistent which I think is the reason we tied and lost games we should have won. I think the future is extremely bright.”
