NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Green Wave earned two victories last week over a non District 2 foe and a District 2 foe.

On Tuesday night, Cathedral won 8-1 over Porter’s Chapel Academy from Vicksburg. Kennedy Williams scored two goals in the first half for the Cathedral Green Wave. Logan Ellis and senior Dow Harriston also notched one goal toward the night’s victory in the first half of play.

Then, the Green Wave turned around on Thursday night and hosted a Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 4A-District 4 foe of Brookhaven Academy. The Cathedral Green Wave won 7-0 over Brookhaven Academy on a wet and cold night.

Jacob Moore came up huge for the Green Wave in scoring three goals in the match. Williams continued his scoring streak and scored two goals. Alex Dale and Hairston each scored a goal on penalty kicks.

Dennis Hogue, Cathedral head soccer coach, said Dale scored his first career goal last night.

“Dale’s mother filmed his goal and the celebration afterwards,” Hogue said. “All of the team ran up to Dale and they were high fiving him and hugging him. It was a great celebration.”

For the Green Wave to make the playoffs, Hogue said Cathedral needs to win out in order to make the playoffs. Cathedral will host another MAIS foe in Oak Forest Academy at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. In preparation for the must win match against Oak Forest, Hogue said the Green Wave will be working on their vision and anticipation of upcoming passes from teammates.

The final MAIS match for Green Wave (8-5-1) will be the final cross-town rivalry match against the Adams County Christian School Rebels on Feb. 11. This season, Cathedral is 0-2 against their cross-town opponent of ACCS.

“I would love for it to come down to us and ACCS in the last match of our season,” Hogue said. “It would be cool if we could beat Oak Forest and ACCS. We just don’t want to be eliminated next Tuesday.”

ACCS 3, Copiah Academy 0

NATCHEZ — On a rainy and damp night, the Adams County Christian School Rebels were able to earn a non MAIS South victory over Copiah Academy. The Rebels won, 3-0.

Alex Patterson scored two goals and Nolan Owens scored one goal in the match. Juan Boteo passed the ball and earned two assists in the match.

ACCS will host Class 3A Laurel Christian School Lions at 3:30 p.m. Feb. Monday.

Tioga High girls 0, Delta Charter 2

BALL, Louisiana — The Delta Charter Lady Storm traveled to Tioga High School on Wednesday night and came away with a 2-0 victory.

Olivia Lancaster and Jordyn Sharp each scored a goal in the match. Then on Thursday night, the Lady Storm traveled to Winnsboro to face the Franklin Parish High School Lady Patriots. The Patriots won 3-0 over the Lady Storm.

Daniel Rivera, Delta Charter soccer head coach, said the Lady Storm didn’t play their best night.

“We gave up a couple of early goals and went down by three at half,” Rivera said. “We played much better in the second half but failed to capitalize on a few good moments to make a comeback.”

In the Louisiana High School Athletics Association Division IV power ratings, the Delta Charter Lady Storm seeded No. 26 and need to be in the top 24 to reach the playoffs. In the upcoming match on Monday, the St. Frederick High School Lady Warriors rank in the top 24 at the No. 20 spot.

The Lady Storm (7-9-2) will honor their seniors on Monday against District 2 rival in St. Frederick High School. Senior Night activities begin at 5: 15 p.m. before the Lady Storm’s match at 5:30.

Tioga High boys 3, Delta Charter 6

BALL, LA — After watching the Lady Storm win, the Delta Charter Storm boys team finished the sweep of the Tioga High School Indians on Wednesday night. Delta Charter won, 6-3.

Jacob Hawkins and Zac Clayton each scored two goals. Andrew Dillard and Thomas Geoghegan each scored a goal to end the Storm scoring.

“They played some of the best soccer I have seen them play all year,” Rivera said. “We were also able to get most of our younger guys a lot of experience as well and they showed up.”

  In the LHSAA Division IV power ratings, the Storm (5-9-2) sank to the No. 30 spot in the power ratings and need to be in the top 24. The St. Frederick High Warriors are in the top 24 and are the No. 8 seed in the power ratings.

The boys match starts at 7 p.m. on Monday at Delta Charter against the No. 8 Warriors.
