NATCHEZ — Juan Boteo, Nolan Owens and Alex Patterson each scored a goal for Adams County Christian School as the Rebels defeated the Cathedral High School Green Wave 3-0 on a windy Thursday afternoon in an MAIS Division II South, Class 4A game.
Boteo broke a scoreless tie with his goal after about 25 minutes of play in the first half to give ACCS a 1-0 halftime lead. Patterson and Owens each added a goal in the second half and the Rebels’ defense would preserve the shutout win over its cross-town rival.
“The AC boys’ soccer team came together last night. In my opinion, it was the best soccer match I have seen them play all season. Never been more proud of a team,” Rebels head coach Jimmy Allgood said. “Passing, trapping, communication — all was picture perfect. From the opening whistle to the final bell, our boys controlled the action.”
Allgood noted that ACCS had 80 percent possession to only 20 percent possession for Cathedral throughout the game, which gave the Rebels plenty of scoring opportunities. He was also thrilled with the team’s defense and the play of goalkeeper Jasin Wesberry.
“Jasin did an amazing job at goalie. Due to the amazing play of our defense, led by Will Ray, there were only a few shots on goal attempted by the Green Wave,” Allgood said.
