BATON ROUGE— A ceremony celebrating the life of Melissa Cain Shirley, 60, of Baton Rouge, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at her residence after a brief illness, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Evangeline Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon until service time Sunday at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Church Funeral Services and Crematory in Baton Rouge.
Melissa Jan was born Dec. 6, 1959, in Bastrop, Louisiana, the daughter of Edward Lee Cain and Irmagene Mardis Cain.
She was a past resident of Jonesville and current resident of Baton Rouge. She was also a member of Evangeline Baptist Church, ABWA, Women of Vision and WMU.
Missy was the managing director of Comer Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Ferriday for more than 10 years; since 2016, she was location funeral director for Church Funeral Home Services and Crematory in Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Jory Cain.
Survivors include her husband, David W. Shirley; three children, Caroline Victoria Flournoy and husband, Michael, Shana and Landon Shirley; her mother; one brother, Jody Edward Cain and wife, Jennifer; sister-in-law, Denise Roberts Cain; four grandchildren, Collins, Trey, Landin and Hannah; one nephew, Cody Lee Cain and wife, Lauren; three nieces, Mary Margaret, Molly Frances and Mae Marie Cain; three great-nephews, Carson, Hudson and Camden Cain; and a number of other relatives and friends.
