NATCHEZ — Coaches and players alike in the Miss-Lou are ready to begin the second half of the soccer season.

One Miss-Lou soccer team that has had success in the first half of the season is Delta Charter Lady Storm.

At the Copa Acadiana tournament on Dec. 7, the Lady Storm won their pool play and advanced to the championship match. In the championship, Delta Charter faced West Jefferson High School Lady Buccaneers. The Lady Buccaneers defeated the Lady Storm, 3-1.

Daniel Rivera, Delta Charter Storm Head Coach, said both of the teams are starting to click going toward the second half of the season.

“We have had a lot of good stuff happen and we’re excited for the next half of the season,” Rivera said. “This is the part of the season we get into district play and face schools who are a lot closer in size to us.”

Delta Charter will begin district play at 5:30 p.m. with the boys match to follow at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Vidalia High School at Delta Charter.

Cathedral High School Green Wave

The Green Wave began the second half of the season on Thursday with a district match against Oak Forest Academy. The Green Wave will have five district matches in the second half of the season.

Dennis Hogue, Cathedral High School Green Wave head soccer coach, said the season has gone to par.

“We’re kind of sluggish and trying to get it together,” Hogue said. “It’s how it starts that way and you build momentum and try to get the right pieces in the right spot. I think we’re about there now. We have been moving people around to different positions.”

Hogue said Kennedy Williams has been leading the Green Wave with more than 12 goals. But a lot of other players have scored too.

“The last game we played we scored four goals and four different players scored them,” Hogue said. “We’re not counting on one person to get the job done and score.”

The Green Wave will travel to Adams County Christian School at 3 p.m. for a district match on Jan. 16.

Adams County Christian School Rebels

Adams County Christian School Rebels begin the second half of the season at home at  5:30 p.m. against River Oaks Academy.

Jimmy Allgood, Adams County Christian School Rebels head soccer coach, said the first half was great but one of the star Rebels players was missing from action.

“I’m excited to have Yohan Thompson back,” Allgood said. “He stepped on the field for practice during break. He’s finally recovering from his football injuries.”

The Rebels will have a district match at 3 p.m. on Jan. 13 against Oak Forest Academy at ACCS.

Natchez High School Bulldogs

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs began the second half of the season with a match against district foe Forest Hill High School.

Josh West, Natchez High School Bulldogs head soccer coach, said he has seen progress of both girls and boys teams weekly.

Two of the bright spots on both of the Natchez High School soccer teams have been Tabius Woods and Carmen Butler. West said Woods has led the boys’ team with three goals in the first half of the season.

“Woods is an athlete,” West said. “He can do anything athletically. He’s pretty coachable and tries to apply the things I coach the team to play.”

West said Butler has scored one or two goals this season for the Lady Bulldogs. West added that Butler has shown consistency and improvement each week.

The Bulldogs’ next district match is at 5:30 p.m. and the boys match to follow at 7 p.m. on Friday against Wingfield High School at Natchez High School.
