NATCHEZ — Monday was the first meeting day of the new year for the Adams County Board of Supervisors and the first meeting for three new and two incumbent members of the board who were sworn into office last week.

The supervisors unanimously appointed District 4 Supervisor James “Ricky” Gray to be the board president and District 3 Supervisor Angela Hutchins to be the vice president.

The board also reappointed Joe Murray as Adams County administrator and Scott Slover as the board attorney and appointed other department heads as well.

In other matters during Monday’s meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors, the board:

4 Heard a report from Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford who said that a state of emergency had been declared to fix flooded roads after a severe thunderstorm Thursday evening. Both Robins Lake dam and Bourke Road went underwater during the storm, which called for debris removal from Bourke Road and a partial closure of Robins Lake Road around a slough off on the dam.

Bradford said emergency sirens would be tested on the first Saturday of each month as they were last Saturday and advised locals to sign up for CodeRED weather alerts at www.coderedweb.com to stay informed. 

4Unanimously approved financing approximately $202,000 for six new patrol vehicles for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

4Unanimously approved a purchase of a new iPad for the Adams County Coroner’s office, the cost of which should not exceed $1,500. Coroner James Lee also requested a new van with a stretcher. The board took his request under advisement and took no action to that effect.
