FERRIDAY — Three years ago, Delta Charter Head Soccer Coach Daniel Rivera said he decided to begin the tradition of the Miss-Lou Cup.

The tradition continues on Saturday with the Adams County Christian School Rebels, Cathedral Green Wave and Delta Charter Storm boys’ soccer teams competing against each other.

Rivera said the Miss-Lou Cup is one event to celebrate the sport and all of the soccer programs in the Miss-Lou.

“I believe that it’s very important to support, not just our own respective programs, but the programs of everyone in our area in order to grow the sport for everyone in the Miss-Lou,” Rivera said. “Soccer has come a really long way in this area in a short period of time and we want to continue to celebrate that every year.”

On Saturday at the Miss-Lou Cup, each of the three teams will play each other once. The first match begins at 10 a.m. when the Storm square off against the Green Wave. Then, the second match features Cathedral versus ACCS at 11:30 a.m. The Storm will face the Rebels in the final match at 1 p.m. The team with the most wins will win the Miss-Lou Cup.

To prepare for the Miss-Lou Cup, Rebels Head Coach Jimmy Allgood said the Rebels have focused on trapping, shooting and passing skills.

“This is the second half of the season, where many of the matches will be against district opponents,” Allgood said. “We have to sharpen that blade to get ready for the second half of the season in order to earn the No. 1 spot in our division.”

In the season, the Rebels have played in two tournaments up until the Miss-Lou Cup. In the St. Aloysius tournament on Dec. 14, ACCS faced Washington High School and host St. Aloysius. ACCS won 4-1 over Washington High in the first game. Juan Boteo earned a hat trick in the match. In the second match against St. Aloysius, Boteo scored two goals.

Allgood said the Rebels played in the Miss-Lou Cup last year. He added that Delta Charter won the Cup.

“Playing in the Miss-Lou Cup allows several of the coaches and teams a chance to win the cup and having bragging rights,” Allgood said. “At the end of the day, it gives all of us coaches and players a chance to have a few matches to go into the New Year and really kickoff district play.”
