Ferriday High girls go undefeated at Sicily Island High School tournament

SICILY ISLAND — The Ferriday High School Lady Trojans had two blowout wins over the weekend to end up with three wins and no losses at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.
Last Friday night, Ferriday took care of the Richwood High School Lady Rams 57-14. The Lady Trojans jumped out to an 18-2 lead after one quarter of play and never looked by. Ferriday was led by Shekayla Miller with 16 points and Tierra Spurs with 11 points.
Less than 24 hours later, the Lady Trojans rolled past the Delta Charter School Lady Storm 64-17. And once again, Ferriday dominated the opposition on both ends of the court in the first quarter. This time, the Lady Trojans had a 20-4 lead over the Lady Storm at the end of the quarter and rolled on from there.
Spurs led Ferriday with 11 points while Miller and Anashia Hawkins ended up with 10 points apiece. The Lady Trojans (10-3) hosts Natchez High School at 6 p.m. Friday at the Ferriday Junior High School gym.
Cathedral girls 47, Centreville Academy 44 (Saturday)
CLINTON, La. — Lauren Dunbar finished with a game-high 27 points to lead the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave to a 47-44 win over the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers Saturday morning at the 2019 Silliman Institute Tournament.
Cathedral led Centreville 25-20 at halftime before the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Green Wave 10-5 in the third quarter to tie the game at 30-30. However, the Lady Green Wave responded with a 17-14 advantage in the fourth quarter for their first win since Nov. 25, ending a seven-game losing streak in the process.
Emilea Roberts led the Lady Tigers with 21 points. They next play at home on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020 against Brookhaven Academy at 6 p.m.
The Lady Green Wave (7-9) takes on Riverdale Academy at 11 a.m. Friday at the River Oaks Tournament in Monroe, La.
Cathedral boys 28, Centreville Academy 27 (Saturday)
CLINTON, La. — J.T. Taylor led Cathedral High School with 11 points and Mason Moore added eight points as the Green Wave edged past the Centreville Academy Tigers 28-27 Saturday afternoon at the 2019 Silliman Institute Tournament.
Both teams struggled to get into any kind of an offensive rhythm throughout the game. Once halftime arrived, Cathedral was only up 14-13. Centreville managed to outscore the Green Wave 10-9 in the third quarter to make it a 23-23 game. But in a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Green Wave scored five points while the Tigers had just four points.
Caleb Kinabrew led Centreville with 10 points and Jeff Carroll added nine points. The Tigers host Brookhaven Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020.
The Green Wave (9-7) goes up against Riverdale Academy Friday at 12:15 p.m. at the River Oaks Tournament.
Vidalia boys, girls get big wins at Sicily Island High School Tournament
SICILY ISLAND — Curtis Washington led four Vidalia High School Vikings in double figures with 23 points as they pulled away late for a 65-53 win over the Block High School Bears Saturday night at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.
