Lady Bulldogs, Lady Storm win basketball tourney games

HATTIESBURG — Kelsey McNeal led Natchez High School with 23 points and Candi Gray had 15 points as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Yazoo County High School Lady Panthers 59-46 Friday afternoon at the 2019 Hattiesburg Holiday Tournament.

Natchez High controlled the action in the first half and led by double digits by the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs raced out to a 15-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and led Yazoo County 34-21 at halftime.

The Lady Panthers tried to keep up with the Lady Bulldogs in the second half, but they weren’t able to put a serious dent in the deficit. Jordan Scott led Yazoo County with a game-high 24 points, but she was the only player on her team to score in double figures.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-5) took on Laurel High School Saturday at 12 p.m. in the final day of the Hattiesburg Holiday Tournament.

Delta Charter girls 54,

Sicily Island 39

SICILY ISLAND — Led by Shyvlie Blaney, Tiara Jefferson, and Cloi Cummings, the Delta Charter School Lady Storm rallied to beat the Sicily Island High School Lady Tigers 54-39 Friday afternoon at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.

Blaney led Delta Charter with 18 points while Jefferson finished with 15 points and Cummings added 13 points. The Lady Storm trailed Sicily Island 15-12 after one quarter of play and 19-18 at halftime before eventually taking command in the second quarter.

Delta Charter outscored the Lady Tigers 16-11 in the third quarter for a 34-30 lead and capped off the comeback with a 20-9 advantage in the fourth quarter. Ricaria Lewis led Sicily Island with 18 points.

The Lady Storm took on the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans Saturday at 4 p.m. during the third and final day of the Sicily Island Tournament.

Ben’s Ford Christian School 46, Cathedral 40

CLINTON, La. — Despite a game-high 17 points from Cate Drane, Cathedral High School could not overcome a couple of rough quarters and lost to the Ben’s Ford Christian School Lady Eagles 46-40 Friday morning at the 2019 Silliman Institute Tournament.

Cathedral struggled to get shots to fall in the first and third quarters and that proved to be the difference. Ben’s Ford took a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play and then the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Green Wave 11-6 in the pivotal third quarter that gave them a 33-27 lead.

Lauren Dunbar scored 10 points for Cathedral. Dani Descant led Ben’s Ford with 13 points and Allie Jacobs added 11 points.

The Lady Green Wave (6-9) took on Centreville Academy at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Silliman Tournament.

Block 33, Vidalia 31

SICILY ISLAND — The Block High School Lady Bears held on for a 33-31 win over the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings Friday afternoon at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.

Vidalia had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer with 0.7 seconds left, but the shot bounced off the rim and stayed out.

The Lady Vikings (5-4) took on Tensas High School Saturday at 1:20 p.m. at the Sicily Island Tournament.
