Green Wave roll past Eagles in basketball tourney game

CLINTON, La. — Chase Kaiser finished with a game-high 21 points and Cam Tanner added 11 points as the Cathedral High School Green Wave defeated the Ben’s Ford Christian School Eagles 60-42 Friday afternoon at the 2019 Silliman Institute Tournament.

Cathedral had a tough time pulling away from Ben’s Ford in the first half. The Green Wave was only up 15-11 after one quarter of play and 25-19 at halftime on the Eagles. But in the third quarter, the Green Wave dominated the Eagles on both ends of the court.

The result was a decisive 20-6 advantage for Cathedral for a commanding 45-25 lead. Ben’s Ford was only able to cut two points off that lead when the game was over.

Angelo Exkano led the Eagles with 17 points and John Self chipped in with 10 points.

The Green Wave (8-7) took on Centreville Academy Saturday at 12:45 p.m. at the Silliman Tournament.

Madison Parish 66, Vidalia 49

SICILY ISLAND — Curtis Washington’s game-high 21 points was not enough for Vidalia High School as the Vikings fell to the Madison Parish High School Jaguars 66-49 Friday afternoon at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.

Two big quarters is what propelled Madison Parish to victory in this showdown. The Jaguars scored 20 points in the second quarter and 24 points in the fourth quarter. They were led by M. Hicks with 19 points.

Washington was the only player for Vidalia to score in double figures. Ray J. Ransom and Christian Wright each scored nine points.

The Vikings (4-5) went up against Block High School Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Sicily Island Tournament.

Block boys 84, Delta Charter boys 81 (OT; Thursday)

SICILY ISLAND — Dexter Jefferson led Block High School with 27 points and Gary Stevenson added 15 points as the Bears rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Delta Charter School Storm 84-81 in overtime Thursday night at the 2019 Sicily Island High School Tournament.

Block trailed Delta Charter 42-32 at the half before outscoring the Storm 17-11 in the third quarter and 24-20 in a thrilling fourth quarter to force overtime. The Bears went on to outscore the Storm 11-8 in overtime.

Ny’kel Brooks led Delta Charter with a game-high 44 points and Kavarius Whitehead poured in 22 points.

The Storm did not have a game on Friday and took on Tensas High School at 5:20 p.m. Saturday at the Sicily Island Tournament.
