Make a plan now for next weather event

The Southeast experienced terrible weather Monday as tornadoes touched down in several areas, killing at least four people.
That is certainly horrible news and our hearts go out to the families of the victims and to all who suffered damage in the storms.
Fortunately, Natchez and Adams County were spared the brunt of the storms although we did suffer some wind damage and some slight reports of flash flooding.
For a long period on Monday, however, Natchez and Adams County were under a tornado watch, meaning conditions were right for a possible tornado, and for a briefer period we were under a tornado warning, which means a possible tornado had been indicated in the area.
Natchez-Adams School District dismissed schools early in response to the severe weather and emergency sirens warned the community of the potential weather hazards.
All of Natchez’s and Adams County’s defense systems worked and fortunately we were spared the brunt of the storms that did so much damage to other parts of the region.
We encourage everyone to take the storm events of Monday as a reminder of the importance of paying attention to weather watches and warnings.
Next time the sirens go off we hope you have a plan in place to get your family and yourself to a safe location.
