NATCHEZ— Services for Mignon Virginia “Ginger” Henderson Newman, 79, of Natchez, who died peacefully Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hurt officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Ginger was born July 13, 1940, in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of William Lee Henderson and Iris Grantham Henderson.
She was a 1958 graduate of Murphy High School. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and married husband, Spike, before finishing college. She married Spike on July 9, 1960. They made their home first in Mobile, but later moved to Natchez, Spike’s hometown.
Ginger was a member of the Jaycettes, the Pilgrimage Garden Club and Junior Auxiliary. In 1992, she was chosen as Duchess of the Krewe of Phoenix. She also served as a hostess for many years for both Dunleith and Monmouth for her good friends, Bill and Lark Heinz and Ron and Lani Riches.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Jerry Richardson; one nephew, Larry Shaw; and one sister-in-law, Billie Jo Shaw.
Ginger is survived by her husband of 59 years, B.G. “Spike” Newman Jr.; one son, B.G.”Chip” Newman III and wife, Clara; one granddaughter, Virginia Caradine Newman, all of Flora; one brother, William “Bubba” Henderson and wife, Bernice; two sisters-in-law, Kay Galuppi and husband, Jim, and Faye Richardson; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Shaw; three nieces, Delou Sabin and husband, Kirby, Kristen Sisk and husband, Shane, and Robbie Richardson; three nephews, Lee Henderson, Brand Richardson and wife, Tanya, and Trey Galuppi and wife, Tara; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.
Ginger was a special person and loved by everyone who knew her. She will be missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank her caregiver, Rhonda Boyd, for her patience and dedication.
