PLAIN DEALING, La. — Very few people expected Delta Charter School to have much of a chance against Plain Dealing High School, especially with having to take a three-plus hour bus ride from Ferriday to a town north of Bossier City and not that far from the Louisiana-Arkansas border.

But the No. 19 seed Storm would not back down from the No. 14 seed Lions as they came away with a stunning 42-38 win in the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.

Plain Dealing (5-6) led Delta Charter 24-12 with 7:00 to go until halftime, but the Storm responded with two touchdowns and one two-point conversion to take a 26-24 lead with 9:17 remaining in the third quarter

And each time the Lions would take after that, the Storm would continue to have an answer. Plain Dealing took its last lead at 38-34 with 6:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. It took just two minutes and two seconds for Delta Charter to take what would be the final lead of the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion.

The game would end up with five lead changes — all of them in the second half. The Lions led the Storm 24-20 at halftime.

Delta Charter (4-7) will take on No. 3 seed White Castle High School in a second-round match-up Friday at 7 p.m. White Castle received a first-round bye.

Many 59, Vidalia 0

MANY, La. — Terrence Williams had three touchdown runs and CJ Woods had a pair of pick-sixes for No. 2 seed Many High School as the Tigers rolled to a 59-0 win over the No. 31 seed Vidalia High School Vikings Friday night in the first round of the LHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Williams scored on a 30-yard run and a one-yard run in the first quarter, the first of which came after Many (8-3) recovered its own onside kick to start the game. Those scores put the Tigers up 14-0 just like that. His third touchdown run came in the third quarter from five yards out.

Woods returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter to give Many a 21-0 lead. Then he did it again in the third quarter, this one going for 40 yards and a 42-0 Tigers lead.

Vidalia (3-8) didn’t have many opportunities to get into scoring position, but when they did were not able to take advantage of them. The first time the Vikings got in the red zone, they fumbled the ball and the Tigers’ Tackett Curtis recovered it and returned it to the Vidalia 12-yard line. However, Many was not able to capitalize on that turnover and eventually went into halftime up 28-0.

Trotter Lafollette was a perfect seven-for-seven on extra points and made a 23-yard field goal late in the third quarter.

Many will play host to No. 15 seed East Feliciana High School in the second round. East Feliciana knocked off No. 18 seed General Trass High School 30-12 Friday night.

Montgomery 44, Block 0

MONTGOMERY, La. — The Block High School Bears saw their season come to an end against a familiar opponent Friday night in the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.

After a scoreless first quarter, Block was unable to keep No. 9 seed and District 3-1A foe Montgomery High School out of the end zone and the Tigers shut out the No. 24 seed Bears 44-0.

Montgomery scored 14 points in both the second and third quarters before scoring 16 points I the fourth quarter.

While Block finished with an overall record of 2-9, Montgomery (8-3) will take on another familiar opponent in the second round — No. 8 seed and District 3-1A champion Logansport High School. Logansport was one of the top eight seeds in Class 1A to earn a first-round bye.
