NATCHEZ — When the Natchez High Bulldogs soccer team begins its season tonight hosting Bogue Chitto, they will be under the direction of a new head coach.

Josh West, who is beginning his new role as Natchez High’s soccer coach, said getting ready for the new season has been challenging for him.

“I’m trying to coach different skill levels,” West said. “You have kids who are just coming out to be part of the program. It’s hard to try and manage.”

The Bulldogs season was supposed to start Tuesday against Port Gibson, but due to unforeseen circumstances, West said Port Gibson canceled the match.

Natchez will host Bogue Chitto tonight with girls’ varsity starting at 5:30 and boys to follow at 7.

West is the coach for both the boys and girls teams.

Three Bulldogs to watch on the boys team are Amani Thomas, Louis Boteo and Tabius Woods.

“These are all two seniors and a junior,” West said. “These are all the kids I first started coaching in middle school, so kids I trust and I’m good with.”

Cathedral Green Wave Soccer

The Cathedral Green Wave come into tonight’s soccer match against Porters Chapel with a 2-1 overall record.

Cathedral travelled to face Laurel Christian and won 3-1 on Nov. 5.

Green Wave Head Coach Dennis Hogue said the Green Wave’s young talent is stepping up.

“We have a lot of young guys who played junior varsity last year and now are varsity this year,” Hogue said. “These guys have been playing for a while because they also play in the summer time with the Miss-Lou Soccer Club team. It showed. They’re going to be awesome.”

In the game against Laurel Christian, Payton Wilson scored three goals. Two of Wilson’s goals were off of corner kick assists by Kennedy Williams.

The Green Wave lost to River Oaks, 4-1, on Nov.7. Landen Crouger was the lone scorer for Cathedral.

On the schedule, the Green Wave will have 11 home games, three of which are against Natchez area teams, ACCS and Natchez High.

“Most of our away games are scheduled earlier in the season,” Hogue said. “The later the season goes, the weather seems to get worse and worse. If you can schedule your away games early and out of the way when the weather is harsher, having that home field advantage is going to be huge. Home field is important toward the end of the season.”

ACCS Soccer

The Adams County Christian School Rebels began their new soccer season on Nov. 12 with an away match against Jackson Preparatory School. The Rebels didn’t score against Jackson Prep.

ACCS will travel to Jackson Academy at 4 p.m. today.
