NATCHEZ — With less than a minute remaining in what proved to be the last game of the season for the Natchez High Bulldogs, the South Jones High Braves scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and pulled away with a 43-40 win over the Bulldogs on Friday night.

Braves Head Coach Roger Satcher said his team considered Friday’s game against the Bulldogs a rivalry game.

“They beat us in the last play last year, and we beat them in the last play this year,” Satcher said. “It’s just fitting.”

It also was senior night for the Natchez High Bulldogs.

After the Braves scored the go-ahead touchdown with 33 seconds left, the Bulldogs attempted to go 80 yards down the field. James Singleton threw to Mike Williams for a 29-yard pass.

The Bulldogs were on the 49-yard line with three seconds left in the game. Singleton heaved a pass toward the end zone with two Bulldogs receivers. But it was dropped.

In the game, Singleton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns. Singleton ran for a 50-yard touchdown to begin the game. The longest touchdown pass for Singleton to L.J. Minor for 69-yards.

On defense, Jerome Timmons had an interception, leading to a 30-yard touchdown run by Trevon Henry in the second quarter. Trey Minor picked up a sack in the third quarter.

In the first half for the Braves offense, Crowder threw 13 passes and two interceptions. Crowder also threw two touchdowns, one to Travis Conner and another to Blane Herrington.

“The team played incredible tonight,” Crowder said. “It took every single one of us fighting to the end with no quitting. It was incredible.”

Crowder threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Travis Conner and another touchdown pass to Blane Herrington. Ricshawn Fair rushed for 30 yards and one touchdown. Tegarrius Roberts ran for a touchdown in the second half.

South Jones High ends the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A season on a two-game winning streak. The Braves finished with an overall record of 4-8.

Natchez High finished with an overall record of 47 and 1-5 at home at Tom F. Williams Memorial Stadium.

“They [Braves] come in and answer the call,” Satcher said. “Natchez was a great opponent. Several times we thought we were out of it and our kids kept fighting back. Can’t ask them to do anything more than that.”
