NATCHEZ— Services for Jannie Idina McClain-Murphy, 81, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, in Vidalia, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Daughter of Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry McClain officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with a “Celebration of Life” wake service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Murphy was born June 21, 1938, in Natchez, the daughter of Dora Harris and Alex McClain.
She was educated at the Cloverhill School in Adams County and was a bus driver and cafeteria worker in the school system. Jannie was a member of Daughter of Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Mother’s Board. She also had memberships with the Linwood Society and the Good Samaritan. Jannie enjoyed cooking, canning, freezing produce and shelling and selling pecans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Murphy; her parents; two sisters, Alice Dixon and Margaret Richardson; grandparents, Richard and Gracie Harris; and one son-in-law, Willie Payne.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar McClain and wife, Barbara, and Larry McClain and wife, Golanda; one daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth McClain Payne; two brothers, Alex Williams and A.J. Hardin and wife, Jessie; one godson, Kenny Elery and wife, Penelope; two brothers-in-law, Henry Murphy and wife, Vounzell, and Willie Murphy and wife, Lucille; one sister-in-law, Shirley Murphy-Sanders; and other relatives and friends.
