Sojourner, Mims, Cockerham win election to Legislature seats

NATCHEZ —Republican Melanie Sojourner has regained her Mississippi Senate District 37 defeating Democrat William Godfrey in Tuesday’s general election.
Sojourner had 10,820 votes, or 58.2% of the vote, to Godfrey’s 7,761 votes, or 41.7% percent of the vote.
Sojourner held the position up until four years ago when she lost the seat to Bob Dearing.
Also, in Tuesday’s general election, both of Adams County’s incumbent Mississippi Representatives Sam Mims and Angela Cockerham won reelection.
Independent Cockerham beat Democratic challenger Aisha Sanders 4,517 votes, or 58% of the vote to Sanders’ 3,252, or 41% of the vote.
Republican Mims garnered 6,215 votes, or 75% of the vote, to Democratic challenger Ben Thompson’s 2,019 votes, or 24.5% of the vote.
