The official flight may have been canceled because of squirrelly winds, but that didn’t stop pilots from dotting the skies with colorful balloons.
Officials with the balloon festival had originally planned for the classic barge drop — where pilots aim for a target on a barge in the Mississippi River. But unpredictable winds resulted in the official flight being canceled.
Pilots were given the discretion to fly anywhere they wanted. Some pilots decided to take off in Louisiana some from the balloon festival site and from the Natchez bluff. The end result was a picture-perfect afternoon with balloons that could be seen in a 360-degree radius from the Natchez bluff.
