NATCHEZ — Cathedral Green Wave will host Clinton Christian Academy Warriors (4-2) on Friday. But Friday’s game is about more than just a football game.
Friday is both senior night and Pink Wave game. Senior night is where the seniors are being recognized for their efforts in their years playing for the Green Wave.
Along with senior night, people are encouraged to wear pink for this Pink Wave game. Pink Wave is where the Green Wave honor people with breast cancer or any other type of cancer and people who have died from cancer.
Head coach Chuck Darbonne said Friday night will mean a lot to him as far as honoring those with breast cancer or any other types of cancers.
“I have a friend that’s battling brain cancer,” Darbonne said. “This game just sheds more light on cancer. Anything to help raise money for cancer research is a step in the positive direction. It’s a great cause, and I’m glad we honor it the way we do here.”
Nine seniors on the Green Wave’s roster will be recognized at halftime during Friday’s game. Darbonne said this is the first group of football players he has had, since they were in eighth or ninth grade.
Ben White is one of the nine seniors on the roster. White said Friday’s game means a lot to him.
“It means a lot to me, because I have had family with cancer,” White said. “Senior night means a lot to me because it’s my last year and this is one of my last home games on this field. I think it means a lot to have this game. I think it’s special for people to come together for this game.”
The game is set to start at 7 p.m. Friday at D’Evereux Stadium.
