Festivals and awards highlight good news

As summer’s heat and humidity begin to wane, thoughts turn to festival season in the Miss-Lou.
Last week, several festivals unveiled plans for this year’s fall lineup, which is good news for local businesses that depend on the crowds annual events bring to the area. Everything from balloons and belles to Bishop Gunn and cemetery angels is lining up to entertain locals and guests.
And, we can’t forget the annual Natchez Fall Pilgrimage which starts this week.
As we wait for the festival season to begin, let’s look at some of the good news that happened last week.
* Cathedral Sophomore Tyler Gregg knows a little bit about music festivals. As one half of the band “Easily Distracted,” Gregg has seen the spotlight on local music stages. Gregg and classmate Bryce McGlothin started their band as a way to enter the school talent show two years ago. Now they are playing local stages, including the upcoming Longwood Afternoon music festival in November. They have even played for crowds in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans. We hope music success continues for Gregg and McGlothin.
* Congratulations to William Bradley, Regina Charboneau, Bridget Green and Manny Rodriguez for winning a national book award from the Independent Book Publishing Professional Group. The creative team won a 2019 Indie Book Best Historical Non-Fiction Book award for their coffee table cookbook “Natchez Style.” The book was also a finalist for Best Coffee Table Book and Best Regional Non-Fiction Book. The awards are described as the “Sundance of the book publishing world.” Thanks to all of those authors for highlighting the best of Natchez for the readers across the globe.
As we begin another Fall Primage season, let’s remember to look for the good news in our community.
