FERRIDAY— Services for Johnny Sam Jones Sr., 72, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, in Lafayette, Louisiana, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home Ferriday Chapel with the Rev. Richy Barrett officiating.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. at Midway Cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Johnny Sam Jones Sr. was born on Sunday, Nov. 10, 1946, in Natchez, the son of Lynn and Doris Jones.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He returned to Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company where he worked 22 years, then was elected Chief of Police of Ridgecrest. During that time, he also worked for Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and retired after 32 years. Johnny was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will definitely be missed by anyone who knew him.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Samuel J. Jones and Olive; and maternal grandparents, Richard Higdon McLemore and Lillian.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Young and husband, John, of Erath, Louisiana; two sons, Sam Jones and wife, Krysten, of Natchez, and Dylan Jones of Monterey; three granddaughters,  Courtney Poore and husband, Derek, of Erath, Cheyenne Hunt of Abbyville, Louisiana, and Kaci Jones of Natchez; three great-grandchildren, Jaxson Paul Leblanc, Fisher Kyle Poore and Kayde Ray Yanna; three brothers, Sonny Jones and wife, Tommye Jean, Richard Jones and wife, Debbie, and Bob Jones and wife, Sylvia, all of Ferriday.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
