Community Unity: We’re all in this together

A couple of recent events demonstrate the power of unity in Natchez and Adams County.
On Sunday, Holy Family Catholic Church was the site of Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell’s quarterly community prayer meeting.
People of all faiths, races and socioeconomic levels joined together to sing and pray together for the community.
Pastors and community leaders shared inspirational messages and prayed for an end to violence in the community and for the leaders and law enforcement personnel and emergency first-responders who put their lives on the line for the community each day.
Then on Wednesday night, First Baptist Church Natchez hosted a joint church service with Zion Chapel AME Church.
The event featured the two churches’ choirs in a combined performance and a message of unity in the community from Zion’s pastor Birdon Mitchell.
The events show that residents are willing to join together across racial and religious barriers to unite for the common good of our community.
Unity is lacking so much in many aspects of our nation of late as people seem to be polarized by so many elements of the community.
It is refreshing to see people in the community working to bring down those barriers.
After all, we are all in this together.
