Prep football round up: Sicily Island beats Vidalia

SICILY ISLAND — The Sicily Island High School Tigers did what many people thought was improbable – they defeated the Vidalia High School Vikings.
Sicily Island put a damper on Rob Faircloth’s debut as Vidalia’s head football coach with a 26-14 victory Friday night.
Vidalia (0-1) plays at Block High School at 7 p.m. Friday. Sicily Island (1-0) hosts LaSalle High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Alexandria Senior High 35, Ferriday 22
ALEXANDRIA, La. — In what is now dubbed the “Trojan War,” the Alexandria Senior High School Trojans, just outside the top 10 in the LSWA preseason Class 5A poll, defeated the Class 2A preseason No. 8 Ferriday High School Trojans 35-22 Friday night at J.L. “Butch” Stoker Stadium.
“We were off tonight and basically didn’t execute,” Ferriday head coach Stanley Smith said.
Alexandria scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 21-8 halftime lead. Ferriday outscored Alexandria 14-7 in the third quarter to trail just 28-22 at the end of the quarter. However, the home team scored a pivotal touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Ferriday (0-1) hosts Plaquemine (La.) High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Delhi Charter 25,
Delta Charter 18
DELHI, La. — Up by just one point and with time running out, Delhi Charter School scored a touchdown with 3:00 remaining in regulation as the Gators held on for a 25-18 win over a resilient Delta Charter School Storm team Friday night.
Delhi Charter looked like it was about ready to pull away from Delta Charter after scoring two touchdowns in the final 5:34 of the first half to take a 19-12 lead. But the Storm responded with a touchdown of its own with 6:57 left, only to miss the ensuing conversion and still trailed 19-18.
Delta Charter (0-1) hosts Peabody High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Block 26, Buckeye 7
BUCKEYE, La. — The Block High School Bears won for the first time since Week 9 of the 2017 season as they defeated the Buckeye High School Panthers 26-7 Friday night.
It was also the first win over Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. in his second stint at the school. After a scoreless first quarter, the Bears scored twice in the second quarter for a 12-0 halftime lead. The Panthers scored their only touchdown in the third quarter, yet still trailed 20-7 by quarter’s end. Block scored again in the fourth quarter to put the Panthers away.
Block (1-0) hosts Vidalia High School Friday at 7 p.m.
North Pike 63, Franklin County 22
SUMMIT — Damuriyon Montgomery had four touchdown runs and quarterback Alijah Martin accounted for three touchdowns in leading the North Pike High School Jaguars to a 63-22 win over the Franklin County High School Bulldogs Friday night.
Ja’marlin Green did his best to keep Franklin County in the game with a pair of touchdown runs in the second quarter, the second of which came with 31 seconds left to make it a 36-22 game at the half.
But North Pike would not let the Bulldogs get any closer thanks to a 27-point outburst in the third quarter. Montgomery scored twice while Martin added a 22-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars. The Jaguars’ defense gave up just 42 rushing yards and forced five turnovers.
Makyilan Covington led the Bulldogs’ offense with five catches for 96 yards and Ryan Turner had one catch for 50 yards.
Franklin County (0-3) plays at Wesson High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Columbia 61, Wilkinson County 22
WOODVILLE — The Columbia High School Wildcats proved why they are the No. 1 team in all of MHSAA Class 3A with a resounding 61-22 win on the road over the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats Friday night.
Columbia (3-0) scored 34 straight points over a span of the first quarter and a half of the game before Wilkinson County got on the scoreboard with 3:00 to go until halftime. But the visiting Wildcats made it a 42-8 lead with 1:44 left until the half and then returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown just 16 seconds into the second half to go up 48-8.
Wilkinson County (1-2) plays at Tylertown High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Odessa (Texas) 37, Jefferson County 14
ODESSA, TEXAS — A long road trip and the searing heat of west Texas took its toll on Jefferson County High School. And so did the Odessa High School Bronchos Friday night at Ratliff Stadium.
The MHSAA Class 3A Tigers were no match for UIC Class 6A Odessa as the Bronchos jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 37-14 win Friday night.
Jefferson County (1-2) plays host to MHSAA Class 5A Forest Hill High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Silliman Institute 36, Centreville Academy 6
CENTREVILLE — The Silliman Institute Wildcats scored the final 36 points of the game to defeat the Centreville Academy Tigers 36-6 Friday night.
Centreville took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before Silliman scored in the second quarter for an 8-6 Wildcats lead at halftime. The visitors scored 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Centreville Academy (1-2) plays host to Brookhaven Academy Friday at 7 p.m.
