Take steps to be prepared for today’s job fair

If you are looking for a job, today might be your lucky day.
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., local industries will be at the Natchez Convention Center with one thing on their minds — hiring qualified, skilled personnel.
But just showing up will not be enough.
All too often, we hear from local recruiters who detail stories of job seekers showing up underdressed and underprepared for making those all-important first contacts at job fairs.
The cliché is true. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Bring a resume.
Bring references.
If you have a WorkKeys Certificate, bring it with you, as well, to show prospective employers that you are serious about your job search.
Dress like you are serious, too.
No matter how casual the work environment, avoid showing up in a T-shirt, shorts and flip flops.
Aim for a step or two above what you will be expected to wear every day.
Do a little research. Find out everything you can to determine if you are the right fit for the available jobs.
Come prepared with questions of your own. It may not feel like it, but job interviews are a two-way street. Ask intelligent questions to determine if a prospective employer is a good fit for you.
Above all, be honest.
So, if you are looking for a job today and you are coming to the Natchez Convention Center, don’t leave local job recruiters guessing.
Give them every reason to hire you instead of looking for something better.
Good luck.
