WINNSBORO, Louisiana — Anna Poole and Lauren Dunbar combined for six base hits, with four of them going for extra bases, and eight runs batted in to lead the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave to a 14-7 victory over the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars Tuesday afternoon.
Despite having to deal with 100-degree heat and a heat index of over 110 degrees, Cathedral pounded out 16 hits. Seven of them were of the extra-base variety. Poole was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and five RBIs. Dunbar went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.
The Lady Green Wave found themselves trailing Franklin Academy 3-1 after one inning of play before taking the lead for good with a four-run rally in the top of the third inning. Even though the Lady Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-4 game, that would be as close as they would get.
Cathedral responded with four runs in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the sixth for a commanding 12-4 advantage. Madeline Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
Gracie Harrigill went 3-for-5 with a double, Fisher Iseminger was 3-for-5 with a triple, Allie Feltus was 2-for-5, and Smith had a double.
Cathedral (3-8 overall) travels to Vicksburg to take on rival St. Aloysius High School for a varsity-only game today at 6 p.m.

ACCS 5 (Tuesday)
NATCHEZ — The Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats overcame early-game two deficits to defeat the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels 18-5 Tuesday night in an MAIS District 4-4A game.
ACCS appeared in prime position to pull off the upset of MAIS softball powerhouse Silliman after taking a 3-0 lead after two innings of play and 5-2 at the end of the third inning. But the Lady Wildcats would turn the tables on the Rebels by scoring 16 runs over the final four innings while holding the home team scoreless over that stretch.
Silliman capped off its comeback win with a 10-run outburst in the top of the seventh inning.
Becca Cowan was charged with the loss after allowing 11 runs, six of them earned, on 13 hits with three strikeouts and three walks over six-plus innings.
The Lady Wildcats out-hit the Lady Rebels 16 to seven and they took advantage of eight errors.
Kate Parsons had a double and Geri Brumfield was 3-for-4 to lead ACCS at the plate.
ACCS (1-7, 0-2) plays host to district opponent Oak Forest Academy on Monday, Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. That follows the junior varsity game at 6 p.m.

The Lady Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the second for what appeared to be a commanding 6-0 lead. But Cathedral (2-8, 0-2) got back in the game with three runs in the top of the third inning and one run in the top of the fifth for a 6-4 Oak Forest lead.
But any thoughts of a comeback win by the visitors from Natchez ended when Oak Forest scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one run in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-4 advantage.
