NATCHEZ— Services for William H. “Peewee” Baxter, 67, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, were 1 p.m. Monday at Cliff Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Wagoner officiating.
Burial followed at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Baxter was born June 6, 1952, in Natchez, the son of Ben and Flora Baxter.
He was a retired tug boat captain on the Mississippi River for 35 years. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and gardening. He was an active member and deacon of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, and loved to serve his Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Wyatt D. Sharp IV; and two brothers, Benny Baxter and George Baxter.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Myrtle Baxter; one daughter, Stephanie Baxter Sharp and husband, Wyatt, of Plano, Texas; one son, Brian Baxter and wife, Casey, of Jacksonville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Mallory Sharp, Josh Arnold, Kayla Arnold and Logan Arnold; one brother, Mitchell Baxter; and two sisters, Barbara Kimball and Sally Ferry.
Pallbearers were Dale Jackson, Derrick Bonds, James “Doodle” Smith, Mike Melton, Albert Smith and Doug McIllwain.
