ST. FRANCISVILLE, La.— Services for Sarah Lee Young McQuarters, 88, who died peacefully surrounded by her loving daughter, Tangala Malone, on Monday, July 22, 2019, at Baylor University Medical Center Hospital in Dallas, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sherobee Baptist Church, 10064 Jones Vaughn Creek Road in St. Francisville, Louisiana.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery, 41 Cemetery Road, under the direction of Miller & Daughter Mortuary in Zachary, Louisiana.
Memorial visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at St. Stephens Baptist Church, 501 Clinton St., in Vidalia.
Sarah was born in St. Francisville, in Solitude, Louisiana, the daughter of John and Mary Jane Cummings Young. She was one of 13 siblings.
Mrs. McQuarters and her late husband, Earl McQuarters, were married in Natchez. They were longtime residents of Vidalia. She and Earl, a U.S. Army veteran and a John-Mansville retiree, were together for more than 50 years. She was a longtime member of Star Light Baptist Church in Vidalia before joining her husband at King Solomon Baptist Church in Natchez. Later, she worshipped at St. Stephens Baptist Church and served as a church mother.
Sarah enjoyed sharing, caring and loving her family and friends. She found so much peace and joy in her gardens and shared her harvest with visitors throughout her community and from far away.
She always had a special place in her heart for children. That love of children lead her to being called godmother by many, either by christening or choice. She showered each and every one of her many children with unconditional love.
Mrs. McQuarters was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Victor Malone; seven sisters, Ida Chews, Josetta Davis, Carrie Richardson, Mary Ella Barrow, Henrietta Matthews, Ary Anna Pridgen and Pearline Veal; and four brothers, George D. Young, William Young, John Milton Young Sr. and Freddie Young.
Survivors include one daughter, Tangala Malone; one sister, Margaret Young Duncan and husband, Lawrence; three sisters-in-law, Maxine Sterling Young, Viola Bennett and Estelle Banford; and a number nieces and nephews.
