VIDALIA— Services for Guy Patrick Murray, 40, of Vidalia, who died Monday, July 22, 2019, in Ferriday, will be 11 a.m. today at Vidalia First Baptist Church with Whest Shirley and the Rev. Bill McCullin officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Guy was born May 11, 1979, in Natchez, the son of Sidney A. Murray III and Zelma Pylant Murray.
He was a graduate of Vidalia High School and attended Louisiana State University and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He was employed by Bryant Hammett in 2002, and has been there for the past 17 years. Mr. Hammett took him under his wing and mentored him not only in engineering but groomed him for a political future, just as Guy’s grandfather, Sidney Murray, had done with Mr. Hammett early in his career. He served as project manager for Bryant Hammett & Associates and was the director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness for Concordia Parish. Guy was answering the call to serve by running for the office of state representative.
He had a love for life, his wife and his family. Guy was all about them. They spent many days down in Monterey at their camp hanging out with family and friends — sitting on the back porch at Black River Lake listening to some good old 80s music. He was quick with a smile and eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Murray was preceded in death by one daughter, Madison Paige Murray; paternal grandparents, Sidney A. Murray Jr. and Jerry Wyler Murray; and maternal grandparents, Raymond H. Pylant and Frances Walker Pylant.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kally Hardie Murray; three children, Jada Posey, Hayden Murray and Logann Murray, all of Vidalia; his father and his wife, Catherine, of Vidalia; his mother of Vidalia; three brothers, Sidney A. “Boo” Murray IV and his daughter, Sydney, Raymond A. Murray and wife, Tye, and their son, Parker, and Kyle F. Murray, all of Vidalia; one sister, Zelma “Za” Murray Fredrick and husband, Jimmy, and their children, Nathan and Jacob, all of Baton Rouge; a special aunt, Allie Wyler Verlander and husband, Pete, of Metairie, Louisiana; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Josh Wilson, Curtis Nelson, Scottie Whittington, Brain Chandler, Jason Hardie, Mathus Waller, Jimmy Fredrick and Scott Stanford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Weeks, Bubba Crawford, Glen Elliott, Johnny Hoffpauir, Bryant Hammett, Charles Faulkenheiner, Keith Capdepon, Hyram Copeland, Martin Nelson and Dr. Huey Moak.
